I used to have a roommate that I would run errands with on weekends. If we were in his car we'd listen to country, if we were in my car we'd listen to the only CD I keep in there permanently: the best of Hall and Oates.
Now, I've already explained how I un-ironically love Hall and Oates. "Kiss on my list" might be my favourite. Shut up.
So we'd drive around and belt out "Kiss on my list" as we drove. It was a gay old time in every sense of the expression.
One time I picked up my roommate from the airport. He'd done an internship in Winnipeg and met some guys who were coming to Ottawa to do an internship there. He asked if we could give them a ride to where they were staying, and I agreed.
So we're driving, making small talk, when my roommate suddenly goes "Hey, do you have that Hall and Oates CD?" So I fish it out and put it in. Then he goes "What's that song we always listen to?" So, taking care to avoid the gaze of our increasingly perplexed passengers in the rear-view mirror, I change the song to "Kiss on my list" and sit in embarassment as my roommate grins like an idiot. But you know what? He was right. It's a great song, and everyone should be exposed to it.
Not only that, but it benefits from having been covered by The Birds and The Bees, a band I only know from their covers of Hall and Oates. Goddamn, though, this is one of the best covers I've ever heard.
